In October 2007, FdG Associates led the recapitalization of A&R Transport, a leading bulk transportation, packaging, distribution and logistics company based in Morris, Illinois, and its affiliate, Alliance Logistics, a non-asset based transportation management services provider based in Elgin, Illinois. The combined company is now known as A&R Logistics. The transaction was structured to allow the Company's founder and other management shareholders to realize liquidity while retaining a significant equity ownership interest in the Company. The Company is one of the largest providers of bulk transport and related logistics services to the plastic resin industry, serving its customers from over 25 facilities throughout the United States.
A&R Logistics will use capital from the transaction to grow within its current geography and enhance its geographic positioning by establishing additional terminals. This will allow A&R to better serve its current base of customers and expand to serve other customers. In addition, the Company will work with FdG to identify and execute strategic acquisitions that enhance the Company's product and service offerings.
In December 2007, A&R acquired a facility in Chesapeake, Virginia, providing the Company with strategic deepwater port access, as well as plastics compounding capabilities. In April 2008, A&R acquired Pacific Chemical Distribution and Pacific Bulk Transportation, expanding A&R's bulk transport and packaging capabilities on the west coast of the U.S. In September and October 2008, A&R acquired its affiliates in Houston and Baton Rouge; as a result, the Company now controls all of its terminal operations.
